Children's movement are unpredictable, that’s why people feel child photography is little tedious but with proper planning it can be made effortless. You are not sure what they would do next, so a child photographer has to be well prepared before snapping a photo.
Kids are naughty and their expressions are so cute and worth capturing, but may not happen again so be ready to capture it. First, ensure camera settings are done, then use one eye to look through the camera and the other on the room to see and predict when something will happen. And, don't forget to keep the finger slightly pressed on the shutter button so you can click instantly when you come across that hard-to-get expression from the kid. If your camera features AI Focus then the task of getting sharp pictures of kids becomes easy. In case your camera has multi focus points, choosing the center one is ideal as this prevents the camera from focusing more on the background.
If the kid is playing, become a part of it, follow them wherever they go, and capture their activities. But recording every movement of them may not be possible if you are using a SLR, this is going to be really expensive as you need more films.
