Transcribing music files– mp3 to text

Music transcription depends on the complexity of the music and the manner in which the music is heard. A good ear is merely what a music transcriptionist needs. While the music is played the chords are written down by the transcriptionist. The music can be in any digital format of mp3 or wav and can be transcribed into word document, rich text format or PDF depending on the requirement of the customer. Transcribing complex music can take a longer duration when compared to a simpler one. Sheet music is available for most of the popular compositions. A musician who wants to improvise on a piece of music will require the transcripts and these transcripts can be provided only by a professional music transcriptionist.

There are certain forms of music that requires embellishment and re-harmonization this is possible only if you posses music transcripts of that particular composition. Audio transcription is an important form of educational methods that helps musicians to master the art. Not all transcriptionists are capable of transcribing all forms of music. Figuring out the chords is not as easy as it may seem to be and requires expert ears and hands. With time a music transcriptionist can improvise their skills. Years of practice and listening are indeed key to good music transcribers.

The more familiar the music is to your ears it is easier to transcribe hence a transcriptionist has to listen to the same music over and over again to perfectly transcribe them. The equipment required for the music transcription work is a record player preferably connected to a computer. Earlier there was the vinyl which is called the no loop facility where the recording cannot be played from a specific point. Manual lifting of needle is required to go to the exact piece, a small mistake and the records are permanently damaged. This was followed by the cassette player. It was considered a great step forward in the transcription field where a Walkman was used to listen to the music and then notes were manually transcribed. This had a lot of advantages over vinyl where the tape can be moved forward and reverse. Another benefit was that it was portable. Then came the CD/Mini Disc a digital version that can accurately give you time indications with looping, tuning adjustment and speed modifications. In recent times they are considered to be the best friends of music transcribers.

CD/ Mini Disc can be loaded onto a computer and with the assistance of specific software the audio can be played and transcribed.
