Tips and Techniques for Children’s Photographers

Photography is an art and photographers are artists so in order to make this art bigger, better and beautiful, one has to put in a lot of effort especially when shooting kids. Kids are the toughest to shoot for as they move really quickly from one place to another, they do not follow the instructions given by the children’s photographer and can simply create a mess all around, especially when told not to! Due to these reasons they make the shoot nearly impossible and it becomes difficult to move on with the photo session.
Subsequently, to avoid such experiences, children’s photographer should keep the following points in mind during children’s photo shoot:
Play with them: Children’s photographer should try to make the kid comfortable by playing with them while shooting. They can simply ask their parents to carry their child’s favorite toy at the shoot, or keep some interesting toys with them when they know they are on the kid’s job. The children’s photographer should try and read their mind and act accordingly so as to make the child feel comfortable. Just try to befriend the kid and then start being inquisitive about his/her interest. Ask the kids questions related to different names of the toys, shapes, colors or by talking about different cartoon characters, movies and rhymes.
Laugh with them: Kids are always happy with people who make them laugh and they look the best when they laugh in front of the camera. Make funny faces in front of them so that they enjoy and respond to that particular move and in turn one can get a good natural pose of the kid. Start telling them jokes which they like and understand so that they start enjoying the photo shoot. Children’s photographer should also try to make the use of funny accessories related to photography like funny hats, sunglasses, moustaches etc. in order to make the kid happy and engaged.
Act in line with their mood: Children’s photographers should try and be calm and serene with the kid and should try to act accordingly. Kids have different moods at different times so just follow their mood. If the kid is not in a mood to laugh then don’t force them it may end aggravating the situation. Do not force the kids to have a photograph clicked if they are not willing to because it can disturb the photo shoot completely.
Involve parents: Children’s photographer should involve parents in order to keep the child happy, make them feel secure and act as required. The children’s photographer can take the help from the kid’s mother and can even include the mother in the picture.
