Guide to Children’s Portraits: Knowing the Techniques to make it Even Better

Young children are considered as vast subject for the photographers. They pose naturally in front of the camera and are easy to work with. A children’s portrait can be identified with the innocence of childhood which can be depicted with the children’s portrait. This factor makes the children’s portrait beautiful.
A photographer should keep the following in mind while making a children’s portrait:
Morning shoot: morning light is considered as the best light for natural shots and most children are fresh at the wee hours of the day. In the morning outdoor lighting is ideal for soft and natural looking environment.
Lighting: when shooting a children’s portrait lighting plays a vital role. The photographer should always look for varied lights for example light beams falling on a bench. The child should be facing at the light. This creates a lighting effect in the portrait. The photographer can make use of light coming through the windows especially if there are white walls in some rooms which can serve as very prominent background for the photographs
Try to make them smile naturally: Do not ask the child to smile forcefully. Some of the best children’s portraits are made not only when they smile but also when they act naturally. Sometimes photographers and parents force the child to smile in order to get a good children’s portrait but it may not yield the desired result. A child captured naturally in a photograph looks more beautiful and appealing.
Make them play while waiting: if there are many children for the photo shoot then don’t make them wait rather give them toys to play with so that they spend their free time by doing the activities of their interest. The photographers should try to use ling lens while shooting so that the children are unaware of the camera. One should be patient while shooting with the kids and concentrate on the shoot so that the outcome is nice.
Black and white photographs: take black and white photographs. Black and white children’s portrait highlights the personality of a child. These pictures make art prints that are timeless.
Theme: Children’s portraits photographers should plan the event according to the needs of children. Find out what the needs of the children are and their interests before the shoot starts. Plan a theme for the session depending on the kid’s interest. Incorporate some props to make the children’s portrait even more exclusive.
Put these tips together and add a little bit of creativity and imagination and there you go - a close to perfect way (there never can be a perfect technique/way for any form of art) of manifesting a memorable Children’s portrait.
