Newborn photography – Sure not a bumpy ride

Eyes speak it all. Catching the eyes of a newborn on camera is not going to be a cake walk. Since newborns are asleep all the time, it is going to be an uphill task to get a snapshot of the baby with their eyes open. Many photographers wait for hours together for this single shot. Only a baby photographer knows how to get this done without much effort. Moving the camera close to the baby may be 3 to 4 feet away can help get great shots of the newborn. The photographer needs to use good macro lens for best shots. Using the mother as a prop also is a great idea. Holding the baby slightly angled will deliver excellent pictures.

Most newborn baby photographers click numerous shots with the newborn to be sure that at least one of them turns out to be good. Some of the photos can be a great collection for the family album too. Remember that the portrait photos should be different from album photos. Neat close ups and tight shots look fantastic for a portrait photo. Using various props and backgrounds supporting the newborn will look good for album shots. Clicking random shots sometimes work out when it comes to decorating your drawing room wall, but not always. This is where the expertise of a newborn photographer is required.

Simple mistakes can be a hurdle while taking pictures of your little angel. As far as possible avoid using flash or heavy lighting while taking pictures of the newborn. The baby’s eyes are fragile and strong light can cause damage to the eyes. Always opt for natural lighting when it comes to picturing a newborn. Ensure that there are no shadows. Using pastel shades in the background can work wonders for a newborn portrait. Using dashing colors will take the focus away from the newborn. Using light shaded curtains or blinds can work wonders. Dressing the newborn in comfortable clothes for the portrait is important. Avoid dark colored clothes.

Clean the baby well before the photo shoot and ensure that they are in good mood. Of course you cannot expect a pose from the newborn, but you never know they might throw a surprise by giving a great pose. Keep baby wipes and diaper ready to handle unexpected situations. Balance the baby using appropriate props to get the required position for the snapshot. Catching the baby fresh is the goal of any newborn photographer hence call them within a week the baby is delivered. Checking for imperfections on a big screen can help reduce mistakes. Especially if you are looking for poster size then imperfections have to be handled with care.
