Child photography: Looking At Innocence Through A Lens

Twinkling eyes full of mischief staring out from a frame, an innocent face sulking out of a photo and so many other images associated with child photography. Capturing that beatific smile is easier said than done. Not for nothing has it been said, never work with animals or children. Neither can be controlled. Unlike an adult, a child cannot be dictated to or asked to remain still for interminable time. Fidgety by nature children make child photography a Herculean task. If the photographer is able to tackle children the right way there is nothing as rewarding as child photography.

Children have such candid expressions and uninhibited that working with them makes it easy for a photographer to take images that are different in each shot. To start off with child photography understand that patience is paramount. Be prepared. Prep up depending on the age of the child. Whether you wish to include interesting toys like stuffed dolls and lego bricks, or soft blankets always have something that a kid can relate to. Ask the parent to get a familiar item if planning a photo shoot. The trick to getting child photography right is making the child comfortable with its surroundings. If it is a small child that would get photographed clear the area of all sharp objects and take some normal precautions when having a young kid around.

Child photography is immediately rewarding because children by nature are blunt, and will be brutally honest if something displeases them or causes them joy. If a rapport can be stuck with the child try outdoor shoots along with a studio shot. Again, exercise caution in choosing the locale. Water shoots are risky in child photography as is opting for the great wild. Parks, beaches, gardens, a carousel if the parent is with the child all make for great locales. Be Ready. That perfect shot may happen even while the lighting or camera aperture and shutter speed is being fixed. And unlike an adult a child will not give you the same expression or pose again.

Make sure to get rid of distractions that take the focus away from the child. In case parents are part of the composition arrange the family to give a natural look. Use clothes and props to give a different and possibly unique feel. Remember, child photography is about experimentation so let go of your imagination.
