Child photography

Let’s face it; children are fast in action and difficult to handle. Before you would reach the click button to take up a picture, they’d be out of your frame. It becomes extremely difficult to get them to a particular pose or to show a certain expression. Whether you are a professional or an amateur, for child photography, what counts is your art of tackling the baby and not your photography qualifications and experience!

Children are most comfortable with their parents and peers. So why not keep them in the picture? Once the child is comfortable with the cameraman, he or she might agree to give some shots alone as well. Plus, a family picture can be a bonus click for the shoot.

Make sure you act to be a friend to the child. Remember they are taught right from an early age to avoid strangers, and the one with too many types of equipment, tools and a camera in hand might seem to be difficult for the child. May be take a candy for the child as bribe. Try playing around and making friends with him or her before you actually take up the task of child photography.

Once you start, make photo shoot a game for the child. Tell him or her to keep staring at the camera as something unusual is going to pop out of it all of a sudden. However, this trick might not do wonders with some kids who are already too much familiar with that object at home. In that case, try showing them some of your earlier clicks as they might get motivated to pose for a better picture than those.

Because children are quick in action, make sure you set your camera on fast click mode, as a little movement might make the picture blurred.

Arranging the set up too much might end up the child to get diverted to something else. Let the pictures come out natural. You never know, you get a masterpiece out of the child’s weird but natural poses.

Before carrying out child photography, arrange for some apt props like toy bikes, baby bath, mirrors, bubbles, umbrella or a giant stuffed toy. This will not only make the picture even more interesting, but will also play its part to keep the child engaged and interested in the shoot.

Be creative. If the child is excited about what is going around, the pictures are bound to come nice and compelling. Make sure you do not click the usual pictures by simply making the child sit in front of a flowering plant, try various props and surrounding get creative and you would only end up surprising yourself.
