Why are props used by newborn baby photographers?

Newborn photographers depend on props to create unique photos. Newborns are most of the time asleep and clicking interesting pictures can be difficult if not for the assistance of props. A comfortable schedule, appropriate prop and a friendly photographer can succeed in getting pictures of a lifetime. Newborns can be cranky and need special attention. Feed the baby and see to that they have adequate sleep before clicking photos. This keeps them fresh and bubbly during a photo session. It is a known fact that newborns have limited motor control and hence props become of utmost importance while capturing their images.

Studios are filled with newborn props that help them to sit or stand or lie down for a picture pose. Props can comprise of cushions, tubs, scarf, towels, blankets, baskets and many more. Babies can be displayed on these as they give a natural effect. Capturing the right emotions of the newborn is important for the success of the photograph. Even a sleeping baby can make a grand photograph, but all this depends on the newborn photographer and the props used in the picture. Photos are all about poses but when it comes to newborns this option is eliminated. The newborn photographer has more tough challenges to face than a general photographer. Though many props are used a newborn needs the support of an adult but outside the frame. Once the pose is ready shoot immediately as newborns tend to change the pose within seconds if they are not comfortable.

Facial expression is another factor that has to be taken into consideration while shooting a newborn. Of course not much of expressions can be expected. But with the limited facial gestures the newborn photographer should try to make the best. Usage of soft lighting and limited accessories can make the baby comfortable. Use umbrellas and soft boxes to control the lighting effect. Select poses that are simple and natural. Do not artificially force any pose on the newborn, this may look hokey and the desired effect will be lost in the process.

Do not use sharp edged props this may cause injury to the child. Some of the props best used are stuff animals, they are soft and colorful and the baby will enjoy its presence. Soft toys add glamour to the pictures and hence they are preferred by lensmen. Another popular prop for newborn photography is usage of hats. Large hat on a tiny head will look cute and at the same time produce undefinable images that can be held close to your heart forever.
