Practical Yet Aesthetic Overbed Tables

Being holed up in bed for months on end can be frustrating, especially if one has been used to leading an active life. Having to stay propped in bed due to prolonged treatment can get tiring after some point especially if one is relying on a caregiver to take care of basic necessities. This could include placing a tray of food and carting it away or propping a magazine to read and holding it in place.

To avoid this sense of frustration and overt reliance on other people the disabled or temporarily invalid patient can explore options such as a mobile swivel tray or an overbed table. While swivel trays can be adjusted to a seat and is multifunctional; an overbed table has become a practical, easy-to-use unit just right for home and institutional use.

Overbed tables such as those from Invacare can easily be adjusted for comfort while reading, writing or eating. They feature an attractive walnut wood-grained laminate top with a T-molded edge that's designed to resist damage. The heavy-gauge chrome-plated, tubular, welded steel construction ensures durability, and the 1.5" casters ensure smooth mobility of the table in any direction. A light upward touch on patented spring-loaded locking handle allows the overbed table to elevate freely.

There is a three year limited lifetime warranty on the product. The design of the product has been created keeping in mind the particular need of a handicapped or disabled person. Hence a U-base design permits this to be used with wheelchairs. It also supports up to 25 pounds of evenly distributed weight when table is in lowest position. Some models support up to 50 pounds of weight that is evenly distributed when the table is at its lowest position.

Overbed tables are different from trays. Trays are smaller in size hence the weight they support is compact and can only be used to place utensils or book. Overbed tables are hardier especially with some of the models having welded base that provides added strength and polypropylene cover that gives additional comfort to the patient. An overbed table can be used as a table with a chair or armchair with the base leaving plenty of space for legs and feet.

Some models have a vertically and horizontally adjustable table top and an ample storage shelf along with vanity mirror that remains horizontal while a C shaped base provides stability. And the overbed table does not have to be dull and boring in chrome steel colors with some manufacturers having tables in appealing colors like grey and red.
