Motoring Away From Disability

Disability does not have to cripple an individual’s life any longer. Societal acceptance of disabled people has ensured a more harmonious coexistence with normal people. Restaurants, cinema halls, apartment buildings, hospitals and any other area that is for public access have developed features that make it easy for people with disabilities to access these places. Ramps are the most commonly used entry points. Governments and housing regulatory bodies in fact have made it mandatory for places that are open to the public to provide certain facilities for disabled people thus allowing them easy access.

For instance, entrances should have aluminum wheelchair ramps or other mode of access that would allow disabled people or people using wheelchairs to access the outside of a building. There should at least be one entrance in use for people in wheelchairs. This should be provided on the same level as and accessible to the lifts, if there are any. In case the main entrance of the building is not usable by disabled people then at least a sign pointing out an alternate entrance should be placed at the main entrance.

People using wheelchairs are far better placed than those that have to rely on crutches to get around. The most irritating aspect about being a cripple is the dependency factor. Having to depend on friends, family or strangers to commute even short distances, to navigate through the house or a building and even for simple things like visiting the rest room makes a disabled person’s life hard. Owning an Invacare tracer wheelchair to a large extent mitigates dependency. A wheelchair can be called modern science’s biggest gift to a disabled person, and a motorized electric powered wheelchair even more so. A motorized wheelchair or an electric wheelchair is a wheelchair propelled by an electric motor rather than manual operations. The Jet 3 Ultra Power chair is a compact wheelchair that is ideally suited for tight or cramped space. With a curved rear caster beam this model provides stability, quick adjust-ability and easy interchange of different seats.

Wheelchairs do not have to look clunky or medicinal with a stark reminder of hospitals. The Jet 3 Ultra Power for instance has a very contemporary design but built for providing sturdy usage. And if the light frame is a turn off due to fear that it cannot support a bulky person, think again. The wheelchair has a weight capacity of 300 lbs, and its 50-amp VSI controller gives good maneuverability on the compact frame. Having a motorised wheelchair is useful to those who cannot propel a manual wheelchair or get easily fatigued as it helps navigate long distances.
