Nebulizer and its types:

People with breathing issues are often referred to use nebulizer, which is nothing but a medical equipment that turns medication into to liquid for easy inhalation directly into lungs. Nebulizers are mainly preferred for asthma medications and a great tool for giving medicines infants and small children who find difficulty in taking medications.

One of the great advantages of using nebulizers is that these medical devices require very less cooperation for them patient, which is not feasible with other types of inhalation devices. This is the reason why they are preferred in pediatric and emergency wards in hospitals. Whereas, if there is a lack of coordination from the patient with MDIs or if the device is used incorrectly it may end up in leaving medicines in patient's mouth and not lungs. But nebulizers are easy to use and risk free, users' just have to inhale like the normal breathing, medicines are delivered to their destination.

There are three different types of nebulizers, namely jet nebulizers, ultrasonic nebulizers, and mesh nebulizers. Choosing the right kind of nebulizer depends users' and physician's preference, the cost, and also the kind of medication to be taken. Now, check out what are characteristics of these three types of nebulizers.

It is with compressed air the jet nebulizer deliver the liquid medication through the mouthpiece. In this unit, medication is placed on a small plastic cup to which the mouthpiece is attached, which in turn is connected to the motor and the source of the compressed air. When the air passes through the plastic cup, the medication is converted into fine mist and hence the patients can easily inhale it into their lungs. This nebulizer is widely recommended not just because it is economical but also easy to use.

In ultrasonic nebulizers, liquid medication is aerosolized by ultrasonic waves produced by a transducer, and they also require less coordination from the user. They work faster than the previous type and since no compressor is used these devices are very compact, hence ideal for travelling.

Aerosol in mesh nebulizers are produced by forcing the medication through small mesh membrane, which is vibrated at a high speed. Of the three type mesh nebulizers are the fastest and are also ideal for transportation, but they are little expensive. Aerosol mask is also necessary along with it. Regular cleaning is required for these devices as there are high chances of clogging of the small openings in the mesh.
