Transcription services and types of transcription

Transcription is basically the conversion of audio files into written text. It is often used for business, medical or legal purposes. The most common way that transcriptions are downloaded from a computer in the form of audio files and reproduced on paper. There are different types of transcription services:
1)Medical transcription: Medical transcription is when a transcriptionist listens to the recording of the doctor or other health professional and types it into a medical report. The transcriptions are usually about patient diagnosis, symptoms, reactions and other types of patient related information. It is a necessity that a medical transcriptionist has some training in medical terminology, abbreviations and other medical related language.
2)Legal transmission: Legal transcriptions include transcriptions of recorded interviews, interrogations, correspondence etc. A background in law is an added asset because legal terminology may be a challenge for those who have not practiced it.
3)Business transcription: These transcriptions may be required by corporation who want a text document of training seminars, interviews, presentations, speeches and other business related items. Many businesses require these either for their own purposes or share it with others through their websites.
4)Academic transcription: Is generally used to transcribe lectures, presentations, guest speakers and other types of audio. Distance learning is all about educational institutions posting their content online. Other types of academic transcription may be dictated work from a professor or graduate student who may record notes related to an academic paper, book, article or thesis project.
5)Focus group transcription: Focus group transcription is when a company, institution or scientific organization needs the minutes of a meeting to be transcribed into a text document. These types of documents will be used to provide information in a more digestable format to allow researchers to more easily dissect information

The Future of Transcription:
The transcription method so far has served the people well; downloading audio files and converting them into writtern documents. But, if the recent reports are to be believed, the process of transcription is heading for an evolution where it will be necessary for transcripters to have a deep and thorough knowledge of whichever field they are dealing in; to raise the standard of their documents from the point of accuracy. So future transcripters will have to not only write down the audio files but they also have to edit it.
