Tips to create stunning children’s portraits

Children look charming in whatever they do or say, it is the job of a photographer to encapsulate them to develop stunning portraits. There are many rules that need to be followed while working on children’s portraits but not all needs to be followed to the core. There is nothing wrong in breaking some rules, as rules are meant to be broken! Sometimes breaking out of a pattern can give you lot of freedom to work and can help in bringing out the much desired effect. The photographer’s only aim should be to take stunning children’s portraits and they can compromise on any rules to get that coveted end product.

Here are some tips to be followed while working on children’s portrait. Though these are not conventions, following them could help work wonders. Normally portraits are taken at the eye level but going out of the way and shooting at different appealing angles using your imagination can make the work most valued. The next trick that most child photographers follow is to divert the attention of the child. If you want some excellent stills then it is better to take casual shots. Let the child not focus on the lens. Allow them to concentrate on their surroundings while taking a calculated shot. Pictures that depict varied emotions and actions of babies are often very amusing for the viewers.

The best way to place the child for a portrait is to place them at the center of the backdrop. Some cameramen like to work with the subject at the corner of the milieu to create a stunning effect. Lighting is another factor that can be experimented with. There are wide ranges of combinations available as far as lighting is concerned. Each type of lighting can enhance child’s portrait, side lighting or backlighting all have a purpose. You cannot do away with natural lighting though. Give it a thought.

Some of the best portraits of children are shot when they are taken secretly. Especially children look very cute when photographed candidly. Ask them to do something they love and allow them to enjoy it for sometime and take a series of shots, definitely a few will turn out to be exceptional for your keepsakes. While trying candid shots opt for longer zoom lens for that amazing effect. Always think out of the box to succeed in procuring some of the best children’s portraits.
